17 months old!

Today Seth is 17 months old. It's funny, we were just talking about it this weekend, but today I didn't remember until 4pm! Oh well. We have had a weird day...Nathan is home fighting off his first cold of the season, and Seth took a big nap (still recuperating from the weekend). Work kept me hopping last night, so other than unpacking, I haven't gotten a lot of housework done. Seth and I did go grocery shopping and made a big Walmart trip, and he got this hat while we were out. He's been wearing it on and off all evening, in this picture he's watching Noggin on the computer (his favorite activity second only to the hangers!)

Early Thanksgiving

We spent the weekend in Kings Mountain celebrating Thanksgiving early with the Mayse side of the family. The whole gang was there, and Nathan's grandparents popped in for a little while on Saturday, too. Seth was an insomniac the first night we were there, but otherwise we had a great time. As you can see, Seth enjoys playing with his cousins!

How do you spell anal....

....S-E-T-H! Poor kid, he can't help it, his mom is a NICU nurse, his dad is an accountant. He never had a chance! It started out lining up his ducks in the bathtub (he may get that from Play With Me Sesame, where Bert lines up pigeons and Ernie lines up duckies.) This past week his fascination is with hangers. Every morning he goes to our closet to see if there are an empties for his collection. For the rest of the day, hangers are hanging from chairs, knobs, and doors, and then when he gets tired of them, they all get lined up on the drying rack in the laundry room. And he almost always faces them the same way! He also likes to line them up on his arm. It's a riot to watch him!

We've had a good week...I worked Monday and Thursday, Seth had a play date with his buddy Landon Wednesday, and we did a little bit of Christmas shopping. In a little bit we'll be off to Case's birthday party...how are all these little boys turning one already?

First look at the new and improved Demon Deacons!

Today we went to the Wake Forest men's basketball home opener. Nathan and Jigar are sharing tickets in the lower level. They are great seats, we are only one section over from our friends Chris & Steve, and ice cream and frozen lemonade are right near by! Seth did GREAT during the game. He would get fascinated by things for long lengths of time, and we only had to distract him once or twice. We are two sections away from the student section, and he loved watching them jump and dance (or maybe he was just dizzy looking at the tie-dye!) He also liked the blimp and the Deacon. He'd clap along to the fight song, or every once in awhile randomly clap, which was really funny. All I know is that I got to watch a lot more of the game than I did last year. The Deacs won (which I don't think we saw all last year...), and the freshmen look like they got a whole lot of hustle in them, so hopefully they'll be fun to watch this year. I think I am already finding my new favorites. I know I won't go to too many games this year, but we had a fun afternoon!

Just a little update

Nothing too noteworthy going on this week, just working and running errands. Seth got his flu shot today, but a DumDum made the tears go away really fast. She let me weigh him prior to the flu shot, he weighed 22 lbs 5 oz, which is a big jump since his last appt. He still looks like a stick, so I guess he's probably taller, too. Seth is fascinated with plugging Ms. PacMan into the TV, and then he wants one of us to play while he sits in our lap. That might have to find it's way back into a cabinet after bedtime. Nathan gave him his first horsey ride today after work, and I think he created a monster...Seth kept trying to climb on his back long after Nathan was ready to be done with the game!

Boys will be boys, Vol. 2

As many of you know, this week we had our laminate wood floors replaced. The tw0-day job ended up only taking one day, but Seth and Colette still went to Cary so I could do a thorough cleaning. I brought them back home yesterday afternoon, and was sweeping the kitchen when I commented that I needed to sweep up "daddy's" bathroom next, because there was still sawdust in there. Seth was playing with a broom, and all of the sudden it got quiet. I asked him where he was, and decided he was in the bathroom. This is how I found him...jeans, shoes, and all! I have no idea what possessed him to do it, and I know the lid had been down...this picture will resurface in his wedding video, I'm sure of it!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from the Mayses! Seth LOVES his monkey costume, he begs to wear it for hours at a time! He is going through a phase where he hates our camera right now, so I don't have too many good pictures. Maybe he'll smile for his daddy tonight. It is going to be almost 75 degrees today, so I guess he'll be just in a diaper in his costume so he doesn't burn up! We have had a busy morning...besides taking pictures with the pumpkins, we are organizing Seth's toys and getting ready for tomorrow. (We are having our floors replaced, yea!) We will go see Nathan before lunch, and hopefully the boys will come see me at work this evening. I'll upload more pictures if we get any better ones!

Windy Weekend!

It was a beautiful (albeit extremely gusty) day yesterday, and after being inside all week with cold, rainy, dreary weather, Seth and I went to the park closest to our house. The sand was the consistency of newly-opened brown sugar due to the recent rains, and we spent a good hour on the slides and swings. We had a great time!

The other pictures are from last Monday...Seth got a trick or treat bag from his great-grandparents, and he made such a mess with the DumDum that we had to have him finish it in the tub!

Dancing with the Stars

Last spring I somehow got hooked on Dancing with the Stars, because it was on after Seth went to bed, while Nathan was at basketball and I was ironing. This season I'm pretty much addicted. Since it's on Tuesdays, I DVR it while I'm at work and Seth and I watch it (sans commercials) the next morning. He likes the music and claps when the audience claps. Well, this past week he must have been paying closer attention, because if you say "dance" or "Dancing with the Stars", he starts spinning around in circles, and usually it ends up with us doing twirls around the living room. And he and his daddy play "gotcha!", so he's burning a lot of energy indoors. He is also in a reading mood, I probably spend at least an hour each day on the floor of his room, (since he will only read on his elephant chair this week), reading 1-2 pages of each book on his shelf. He seems to think it's very important that no book get left out, it makes for a weird storyline! He has also figured out how to get DVDs out of the cases, and how to use lids as cymbals. It's been pretty noisy around here! One last silly story: today he was in the laundry room, emptying the lint trap with a white washcloth...at least he kinda had the right idea!

Boys will be boys

I wish someone could tell me how, with such a big forehead, Seth was able to trip on the sidewalk and scrape his nose? This happened Thursday evening, and when we were running errands yesterday, the universal comment was "get used to it!" Here he is playing with the pots and pans this morning. Big developments for this week: he has started shaking his head "no" appropriately, and will even say "oh" with it once in awhile , and last night he started doing a gesture for "I don't know" which looks more like he is waiting for communion than anything else!

Birthday Boys

Both my grandpas have birthdays this week. Grandpa Meek turned 91 yesterday, and Grandpa B turns 86 Friday. Here are pictures Lisa sent me from their party!

Weird Science

It has rained here all night. In the middle of the night, there was a rumbling that made Nathan and I both wake up. We thought maybe someone's bed broke upstairs, because it felt like our room shook. We decided in must have been a random clap of thunder, and went back to sleep. I just found out it was an earthquake!

Uncle B!

Bryan stopped by yesterday on his way back to Atlanta after a handball tournament in Chapel Hill. We took him to the mall so Seth could show off his climbing skills at his favorite playground. Since it was a special occasion, Seth went on the merry-go-round with Uncle B. I wish some of the other pictures had turned out; throughout the course of the ride Seth also rode side-saddle and backwards on his stationary horse!

Pumpkin patch

Today was Seth's first trip to a pumpkin patch! We went with Case and Bennett, who were perfectly happy to pose with the pumpkins, and Jake and Cami, who explored more but still followed directions. Blame it on the molars, or diaper rash, but Seth was not in the mood to be told where to sit or how to stand. He was more interested in taste testing (all of the) apples than playing in the pumpkins. I had to buy a half peck of baking apples because I felt guilty that he stole one. Guess I'll be making apple crisp tomorrow! It was in the upper 70s today, hence the shorts and t-shirt! The picture of the two of us is kinda fuzzy, but I put it on, because we don't get a lot of mommy-Seth pictures. The other small picture is of Seth and Case, since Case hasn't made an appearance on the blog yet.

Love that lasts a lifetime

My sister emailed me this picture last night. This is my grandparents at my cousin's wedding last June. They are an affectionate, but not an overly demonstrative couple, but the photographer caught them kissing in the corner! I hope we're all still smoochin' 65 years into our marriages!

LRC Homecoming

We made our annual trek to Hickory for Lenoir-Rhyne's Homecoming yesterday. The weather was almost miserable, it was in the upper50s, but overcast with a nasty wind. We got to see a lot of people we haven't seen in a few years, and Seth had a blast chasing around with Evan and Ryan. He somehow managed to make it through the day with only a 45 minute nap in the stroller. We didn't get a lot of pictures...the camera has been dropped one too many times and bit the dust. Tomorrow we will be going out for a replacement, because our big trip to the pumpkin patch is Tuesday, and we have a Halloween project we need to be working on! The pictures are of Seth with his Auntie Marie and cousin Ryan, and playing with Ryan during the tailgate. The other picture is from earlier in the week...Seth didn't want to go to bed, so we put him in our room...he snuck out, and this is where I found him! I think once we get in a house, the computer is going to have to go in an off-limits room!

Okay, so I don't have a homer hanky, but Seth is wearing his Santana outfit in anticipation of game one....I like this time of year, because it's the only time we get to see Twins games on TV!

Dixie Classic Fair

We've lived in Winston for six years now, and this was our first visit to the fair. We thought Seth would want to see the animals, but he was really scared of them. He kept wanted to be passed from one of us to the other, trying to figure out what was the safest place to be. He didn't even really like the pygmie goats! But what he did like: the rest of the fair. He loved the sights and sounds of the midway, and really liked corn on the cob, turkey leg, and funnel cake! But I think his very favorite was the sno cone he shared with Nathan...I mean the sno cone he let Nathan carry for him, he didn't want to share, and he'd call Nathan "NayNay!" if Nathan wasn't fast enough! Check out his shirt on the ride home! (Although he's drooling like a mad man, I can see a molar finally starting to poke through.)

Second Goose Egg

It's deja vu all over again here...Seth was playing in our bedroom last night, and he must have bumped the bookshelf. A figurine on the top shelf fell off and hit him. He was in my line of sight, but I couldn't tell where it hit him. Seth's wailing, and I'm trying to comfort him, and I told Nathan what happened. At which point Nathan points to his own forehead. Bullseye. It hit Seth pretty much in the same spot where he got his first booboo when he was learning how to sit up back in January! This one is more like a goose egg and less like a scrape. The picture is from this morning...Nathan was trying to get some work done, and Seth was insisting on helping!

We had fun the past few days. Thursday we went to the mall and got Seth's Panthers shirt, which of course meant 3o minutes in the play area. Friday we went out to Mi Pueblo with the evening shift girls. Saturday Seth and I spent the morning shopping, then went to Nathan's soccer game. Seth had a blast running along the sideline. I have to work today, and Nathan has another soccer game...lucky for Seth, his Grandpa and Grandma B are driving back from MN, and our house is only a couple miles out of the way, so they are stopping by to play while Nathan is at soccer.
